Sample Student Response

Dear new students,

Welcome to our neighbourhood, Chatswood. I have been assigned as your advisor and will be supporting your transition to the new school and settling in the area. While this written advice will be my first formal introduction of the local experience and school, there will be many opportunities in the future to meet and ask questions in person, so do not worry!

Firstly, our local area is a very convenient place. There's two large shopping centres, Westfield and Chatswood Chase which has all the shops you need from groceries to clothes. There's many local parks that you can visit and a wide variety of restaurants to choose from with your family. There is also a large library with a good selection of books and it is completely for free and open everyday. As it is highly populated, I would say it is a safe neighbourhood and I have made many friends locally.

Our school is co-ed and renowned for excellent education, with many extracurricular activities such as school choir, band, language classes and excursions. I have been personally involved in debating and maths olympiad last year and had a great time. It is challenging but you also make many friends. These activities give everyone a chance to have a go at something outside of studying and will help you explore interests, passions and hobbies. There are also Opportunity Classes available for Y5-6 for students who have demonstrated academic excellence in the OC exam.

We have two large ovals, handball and basketball courts as well as many sporting equipments that can be used by students freely during sport lessons and break time. We have a multicultural learning environment with many students from different cultural backgrounds. I am sure everyone will be very warm, welcoming and respectful as you will soon find out when you join us.

I am very much looking forward to welcoming you in person soon at school.
